Excited to announce that @TheOceanCleanup is massively scaling up Interceptor projects in the coming years! ✅30 Cities. ✅Stopping up to 1/3rd of all plastic pollution flowing out of rivers globally. ✅All by 2030.

We plan to cut ocean plastic pollution from rivers by up to one-third by 2030. How? By tackling the most polluted cities worldwide.
Wonderful projects like The Ocean Cleanup and Seabin™ make me very optimistic about the future of our planet. There is no shortage of challenges but humanity is slowly beginning to cleanup the mess it created. We’ve done it before on local scale and now we are tackling the big…

Note the numbers you’ll see on our website are actually conservative as they reflect last year’s achieved impact. So far this year, we’ve doubled our catch while reducing costs, so funding going forward will have an even greater impact.
Did you know that for just 10$ a month, you can remove 2300 plastic bottles from rivers worldwide? Choose your impact: theoceancleanup.com/donate/
The waters of Southern California will be even cleaner once we’ve deployed Interceptors in all the other rivers of LA!
We have an Interceptor in our MDR neighborhood LA and it’s amazing! The water is so much cleaner - many thanks to the team 😊 Now if we can get folks to clean the air …. 🌏
Our Interceptors have now prevented over 3 Eiffel Towers’ worth of trash from reaching the oceans via rivers around the world! 1/3rd of which we collected in the past 6 months. Very proud of the team that made this happen.
IMPACT UPDATE: In the first half of 2025, we caught more trash than in all of 2024 combined! This adds up to over 30,000,000 kg (over 66M lbs) of trash removed from oceans and rivers worldwide.

So far this year, we’ve collected the equivalent of 14 plastic bottles… Per second.
A close-up of our Interceptor catch in Guatemala. What items can you identify?
Interceptor deployments in Mumbai, India, coming up. 🇮🇳 This is how we map waterways in a city to determine the most effective Interceptor deployment location:
