You are not fully educated unless you have at least a general idea of how what you do know (including whatever field you specialize in) relates to the general metaphysical structure of reality as revealed by classical (Platonic/Aristotelian/Scholastic) philosophy
what's an opinion on education that will have you like this?
A radical vision
The future of shopping malls is: ...they just become a city.
I enjoyed getting to discuss postmodernism, Catholicism, and horseshoe theory on the @SpeSalviInst podcast with @AndrewPetiprin and @BobbyMixa youtube.com/watch?v=L7k3ll…
If you talk about “restoring the West” or some such, but then deny the rule of law (rightly understood), you’re contradicting yourself. The rule of law has been central to the Western tradition since the beginning. “The law is the queen of all, mortal and immortal.” -…
I understand the impulse to make this rhetorical move. But it is not the traditional Western view. I highly recommend this recent article by @Vermeullarmine, because it is of paramount importance that our side get clarity on this issue. open.substack.com/pub/thenewdige…
My magnum opus has arrived. Magnum as in 1249 pages, 800 illustrations, most in color, 75 maps, well over a hundred extracts from primary sources, chronologies and lists of key terms. I wrote Volume 1, from the ancient Greeks to the Renaissance, and my oldest friend in academe,…
I love both the New World and the Old, and mankind is all the richer for having both. “The American/European mind can’t comprehend …” oh just be quiet.
Prof. Robert Frost: "After several hours of fighting, the [Teutonic] Order's army was shattered. Jungingen, grand marshal Wallenrode, and virtually all the Order's senior officers were killed, as were between 203 and 211 out of the 270 brothers of the Order who fought..." 🇵🇱⚔️🇩🇪
The Battle of Grunwald was one of the greatest battles of the Middle Ages and remains one of the most important symbols of Polish identity.
Whitehead’s views on education were very similar to those of the Catholic priest Luigi Giussani. Education should present an interdisciplinary holistic view, replete with value, that the student may then freely consider. All current education is severely damaging. My view also.
Thanks, Erik!
Meant to retweet this when I listened to this a few weeks back, but it's incredible and really needs to be listened to. AI is a deadly temptation.
The unaffordability of homes is the greatest economic injustice today, because it makes it difficult to start families, which are the foundation of the entire social order. Here the alienating individualism of modernity is held in place by suffocating structural economic disorder
The crisis of the family (the breakdown of family structure) is an opportunity to rethink its foundations. Happy to have Dr. Joseph Atkinson on @SpeSalviInst to discuss this. @AndrewPetiprin youtu.be/O9yTTmfk5kU?fe…
In undergrad I took a course called “Ritual & Community” w/ Dr. Glenn Arbery. Check out the syllabus. What a life forming intellectual experience.
Fr Norris Clarke was a master metaphysician and had an ability to explain Thomistic metaphysics in an easy to understand way. I used his book, The One and The Many as a textbook many times.
More people should begin discussions with secularist like this:
This is a great point. I love going to Europe, too, but Bezos has the money to make a place in America the kind of city people want to live in, visit, or maybe have a multi-million dollar wedding in.
An idea to Jeff Bezoz. Why not build a city as beautiful as Venice in the USA...
Trump and his team make it sound like Team America dropped the bombs on Iran.
The Pope is participating in White Sox chants. What a crazy timeline we live in.
