Thought-provoking piece by @ZekeEmanuel on why it's time to reform and improve the Medicaid program. thebulwark.com/p/democrats-mu…
Internet search traffic for health information has dropped precipitously, the outlier vs drop in all other categories, as chatbots and genAI take hold economist.com/business/2025/…
AI formula for the future: "Hire junior employees who use A.I. to do what was once midlevel work, a handful of senior employees to oversee them and almost no middle-tier employees." @noamscheiber nytimes.com/2025/07/07/bus…
We've lost another healthcare giant: Lucian Leape, the father of the modern patient safety movement and a person of remarkable character & integrity. My wife @katiehafner wrote his @nytimes obituary – it rightly highlights both his impact & his courage. nytimes.com/2025/07/01/hea…
While early studies showing #genAI passing MD license/board tests & "showing" empathy were cool, the @Google AMIE study & new @Microsoft dx study arxiv.org/abs/2506.22405 make clear that AI will beat MDs in diagnosis. We'll still need docs, but this'll change our work & training.
Thrilled to see my book on healthcare Al open for preorders! sites.prh.com/preview/6f5cab… I tried to cut thru the hype, with stories & insights on everything from scribes to surgery, hallucinations to misinfo, med education to regulation. Plus "Will there be doctors?" @portfoliobooks

Saddened by death of John Iglehart, a lovely man & founding editor of @Health_Affairs. healthaffairs.org/content/forefr… In 2025, several health policy titans have died: safety's James Reason, futurist Ian Morrison, med ed leader Holly Humphrey, & IT's Atul Butte. All leave huge legacies.
Our entry for 'hyperbole' is probably the greatest thing ever written in the English language.
There are few in this world who were such forces for good as @atulbutte. His dazzling intellect, relentless curiosity, generosity of spirit, boundless charisma, and infinite optimism left a mark on everything he touched and everyone lucky enough to know him. An enormous loss.

It's no longer binary: normal or abnormal. We've known that A.I. can predict future risk of breast cancer from a mammogram jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman… Today the FDA approved an A.I. to do this for 5-year risk assessment clairity.com
I looked at the evidence that AI is replacing entry-level workers in white collar jobs. Bottom line: the scale/timing of job loss is uncertain, but this is not just hype. Companies are really doing it. nytimes.com/2025/05/30/tec…
This move puts the lives of Americans at risk The attack on mRNA vaccines is beyond absurd It was President Trump's Operation Warp Speed that gave us mRNA vaccines These vaccines have been administered nearly 2 billion times to hundreds of millions of people around the world…

Proud of my wife @katiehafner, who gave commencement speech to @SFSU computer sci grads today (many first-gen to college). It's a tough time for grads – the job market's tight (economy & AI). Yet the speech, on welcoming and preparing for serendipity, was uplifting & inspiring.

Agree, Chris, it's long but it's also fascinating and well-researched. They make the argument that Epic is the most successful vertically integrated piece of software ever, and that Judy Faulkner is likely the most successful female entrepreneur ever. Both are probably correct.
Epic has 607 health system customers with ~3200 hospitals between them, representing ~590k physicians and 325M unique patients (285M in the US). 58% of US doctors use Epic. Want to learn more? This deep dive is long but worth the listen 🎧 ⤵️ @HeyEpic acquired.fm/episodes/epic-…
