#UNPublications was honored to moderate the panel “From Global Reading to Local Actions: New SDG Book Club Chapters Continue to Drive Change” at the #BCBF25. The Brazilian, German and Mexican #SDGBookClub chapters shared how they encourage kids to read and act for the #SDG.
From the first book he ever bought at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, Neal Porter took us on a heartfelt journey through the picturebooks he has helped travel across the publishing world over the years, all different but all “uncannily attuned to the child”.


#BCBF25 celebrated Barbara Chiamaka Chukwu and Kayode Onimole, illustrators of the winning project from the Make-a-Picturebook workshop, which provided promising African artists with the tools and resources to break into the international publishing market 🌍

At the Illustrators Survival Corner, panelists discussed how self-publishing can create opportunities for creative freedom and how authors can work to promote visibility as much as possible, starting from an effective book cover ✨

“Advocating for children, childhood and reading” across the world, the International Children’s Laureates and Reading Ambassadors held an inspiring conversation on the work they are doing to dismantle barriers to literature for all youth 💖


“Children are individuals who deserve to be heard and taken seriously,” said Jan Björklund, the Swedish Ambassador to Italy, remembering Astrid Lindgren’s legacy at the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, which this year was presented to “uncompromising author” Marion Brunet.

In publishing, you so often hear that boys don’t read, but are we making the right books for them? 📚 Experts discussed the strong need for genuine and empowering stories for boys, just like the industry has done for girls.
