As it turns out, a whopping 65% of these MRFF funds have been awarded without going through a competitive process. This may mean the best science isn’t being funded.

For medical research innovations to continue – investment is needed! @ASMR calls for an immediate doubling of the @NHMRC budget to support this! A collective voice is a stronger voice, join us in advocating for this! 🧵7/9
I am totally bummed I cannot attend #ANZGOG ASM in person but all 3 kids have covid @ProfClareScott @DrCFord @YolandAntill @annapoid I’m looking forward to @ATSengal sharing our new data and discussions now via email re #translation to improve outcomes for #women #uterinecancer

I needed this today. I thought my grant was definitely innovative and significant, as it was based on our 2020 paper in Clin. Can Research and uses clinically relevant PDX models... and yet I only got a 5 in this category. Very bummed!
It's a difficult day for Australian health + medical research. Many researchers won’t be funded by 2021 @nhmrc grants. For some this spells the end of their career, while disappointing many more. If this is you, we want to remind you that you haven’t failed, the system failed you
Congrats Elke, Fantastic recognition for all your hard work. #qut
Congratulations Dr Elke Hacker winner of the WiT 2020 Sue Wickenden Innovation in Science Award sponsored by @LSQld #witawards #TheShowMustGoOn
I love this idea!! I’m currently editing the revisions that my student has done to his final discussion chapter and this captures everything I want to say. Tell your PI he has inspired many others - but this is so much more eloquent than what I try to say myself. Thank you!
My PI sent me this after he finished going over my latest paper draft. I gotta say, this did more to silence the little mean voice in my head than any of my own self-care, self-affirmations, or "I'm good enough, smart enough, and gosh-darn-it people like me"s in the mirror.

Not only are the wait times ridiculous, the system is just so difficult to navigate. My Dad is now in a wheelchair and they pay for carers to help him shower every morning while he waits for his level 4 package. I feel so sorry for pensioners with no savings, its just awful...
This is absolutely shameful. The Department of Health has just announced more than 10,000 older Australians died waiting for home care they had been approved for in 2019-20. This means in the last three years almost 40,000 older Australians have passed away while waiting.
Omg am I bad that I laughed out loud when I read one of the comments saying this was an example of mentoring in Academia... so true in some cases (unfortunately) #AcademicTwitter
Um what transgene is causing this behavioural phenotype @AcademicChatter
Ovarian cancer is not the only #gynaecancer. More awareness and more funding is needed for the other #gynaecancers including #endometrialcancer otherwise known as #wombcancer. #anzgog fund critical clinical trials #womencan
It takes one click to spread awareness about gynecologic cancers—retweet this post to expand our reach and share information about #GynCancer symptoms and risk: bit.ly/fwc-gyn-cancer #GCAM
I am looking for an enthusiastic PhD student who is interested in kinase driven immunosuppression at #QUT #TRI in #Brisbane. International students welcome but only if they are already in Australia. [email protected] #PhDposition #AcademicChatter qut.edu.au/research/study…
Does anyone know if there is a group on twitter/fb for parents of teens with #CRPS? My daughter developed CRPS in Gr8/9 and is now in Gr12 with severe #depression #anxiety and a bad #CRPS flare #AcademicChatter #ferociousfighters #pain I’m struggling with how to best support her
Happy International Cat Day! Introducing Opal (left) and Cinder( right). These two have enriched our lives so much. #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter #QUT

This funding crisis also affects level C and D academics employed at Unis on continual 12 m contracts.. .. I also support a big increase in the Ideas grant budget for those of us that do very high quality research but aren’t in the top 8% of superstar fellowship recipients #NHMRC
