Expect smoke impacts from the Glass Hollow Fire near Afton, VA. Please avoid the area. Trails in the local area are closing preemptively for safety. 400 miles south, a small section of the Parkway remains closed for the Rattlesnake Branch Fire burning near Mount Pisgah.

Park staff are working hard to clear fallen, hung and hazardous trees on and near the roadway. Recent winter weather events in Virginia and North Carolina have brought down a large volume of trees, comparable to damage from Helene. Thank you for your patience.

Did you know that we make winter weather closure decisions based on the forecast? Park staff know that although snow may not be actively falling, cold temperatures and strong winds lead to additional hazards. This tree fell today in a closed section. Good call!

Today, Nov. 6, NPS restored access to approximately 11 miles of the Parkway, within the Asheville corridor, from milepost 382.5, at US 70 near the Folk Art Center, to milepost 393.6, at NC Route 191 near the NC Arboretum, including the French Broad Overlook at milepost 393.8.
