Last Saturday (12 July 2025) was "Tumpek Uye" in Bali, the day of honoring and sanctifying animals, a part of the worship of Rare Angon, an incarnation of Shiva as a shepherd. Locals make offerings, praying for the animals, and giving them extra treats or toys. #FolkloreSunday

Judul asli novel "Dunia Tanpa Cinta" oleh penulis Palestina Susan Abulhawa adalah "Against the Loveless World"; dari esai tahun 1962 oleh aktivis kulit hitam James Baldwin. Terjemahan Indonesia oleh Yunita Candra Sari bagus. Terima kasih @bentangpustaka sudah menerbitkannya.

Got this with the news of Mahmoud Khalil's release. El-Kurd's writing is sharp, clear, free of platitudes, unraveling my personal bias. One of the most timely writings in modern decolonization. Basically the book I'd like to slap some people's faces with. Thanks @transitreads!

Excited about the upcoming Jakarta World Cinema 2025! I marked 4 films to watch: the coming of age of girls in the Himalayas, a lawyer searching for her trans niece in Istanbul, a rare portrayal of young Saudi working class, and a dark comedy satirizing marriage in a Mumbai flat.
