Met two people at Uppsala chess club yesterday who asked if I wanted to go to a bar with them. I was like sure, but 5 mins later they were like “by the way, we’re on a date”. Never thought I’d experience “we saw you across the CHESS CLUB and really liked your vibe”
Can physicists count?
Fun fact: photons are the most abundant elementary particles in the universe. There are only 10^88 photons in it. It’s therefore impossible to have one trillion more shrimps than photons. Lesson: never take moral advice from innumerate imbeciles.

When I was a utilitarian I hated this argument and found it stupid and besides the point, but when (for a complicated series of reasons) I stopped being one, it seemed so suddenly and obviously right.
RATIONALITY TEST: Would you rather save a human stranger’s life, or save 10^100 shrimp from being unbearably tortured for 10 minutes each?
I think, compared to most philosophers, I’m quite bad at coming up with good examples to illustrate my points, but quite good at phrasing my points in the most concise and clear way. I worry that examples are always more effective, though.

The Republican budget bill is not only reckless — it’s cruel. It slashes Medicaid and takes away health care from millions of Americans. It closes rural hospitals and cuts food assistance for our veterans and seniors. It jacks up energy bills. And it could trigger deep cuts to…
