Appeal successful. Good news for me, but this policy needs to be removed ASAP so that Wales trainees can use THEIR study budget to attend international conferences/courses. Let's support trainees to excel not hold them back! @antonsaayman0 @shaun_smale @y_meddyg @ObaBabsOsibodu
I just found out, that despite already giving trainees the lowest study budget allowance in the UK (£600/year), the Wales study budget also will not cover international flights to attend a conference or course. Simply unbelievable.
Just 5 years ago, HFpEF was described as the “stepchild” of HF with no approved therapies. Today, there are 5 US FDA therapies: ✅ Empagliflozin (#EMPEROR) ✅ Dapagliflozin (#DELIVER) ✅ Sotagliflozin (#SOLOISTWHF) ✅ Sacubitril/Valsartan (#PARAGONHF) ✅ Finerenone (#FINEARTSHF)
Are you a current cardiology resident doctor? Are you happy with the training you're getting? If not, make sure you make your 🗣️ heard. Contact your @TheBJCA rep, your educational supervisor, and your TPD.
We continue to see the harmful effects of mandated GIM dual accreditation on Cardiology speciality training. RDs are spending a disproportionate length of time doing GIM (beyond the stipulated 12 months). Which has led to a marked reduction in procedural + imaging volume
Dspite UK training being the longest in the world.. post CCT fellowships (historically an opportunity to develop new + unique skills) are now all but mandatory to acquire basic competency which should be delivered within training. The system is broken and needs urgent fixing.

6. And here's the thing, I have never seen a private patient in my life. It is a decision I made early in my career to somehow pay back society for the opportunities they gave me. I can identify with people from deprived backgrounds that I see as patients - I grew up amongst…
5. I have interviewed for school medical admissions in the past- the sad thing is that these days the vast majority of applicants are middle class kids. People like me and no longer afford to do medicine and be saddled with > 100k debts, a salary worse than most supermarket…
4. I entered medicine knowing that I would be guaranteed a job, would get free accommodation for the first couple of years and that i could better myself I never had to worry about whether I would be able to pay my loans back, I didn't have any. I didn't have to rely on my…
3. I worked hard and was offered a place @UniofOxford My family never had to worry about how we could afford this - I never paid the penny to go to university to study medicine. In contrast both you and your government have supported the abolition of state grants, removed free…
2. I was born in Longsight, one of the most deprived areas in the UK. I dreamt of succeeding academically and worked hard. My friend who I used to walk home from school with went to prison after holding up an off license with a shotgun . I succeeded, they didn't- i was lucky.…
1. I achieved these dreams as a working class lad from a state school- the son of immigrants, i was born in longsight Manchester (one of the top 5% most deprived areas in the UK) i was the first person in my family to get an education past the age of 16 (and am still the only…
It’s not talent that is unevenly distributed in our society, it is opportunity. I’m determined to smash through the class ceiling in medicine, to make sure that working class kids from backgrounds like mine and @bphillipsonMP can achieve their dreams 👇🏻 thesun.co.uk/health/3563732…
