Integrating candles into calendar customs is a beloved tradition in Irish folklore. Lighting a candle & leaving it on a windowsill on #ChristmasEve was said to illuminate the path for the holy family should they be looking for a night’s shelter. 🕯️ #LegendaryWednesday

#StAmbrose was the patron saint of beekeepers, born in Germany, reared in Rome & known as St Ambrose of Milan. As a baby, St Ambrose was visited by a swarm of bees in his crib. They were said to endow a #gift of eloquence; making the child honey-tongued! #BookologyThursday

Using a smoker to pacify the bees has ancient evolutionary origins. Bees associate smoke with their forest being on fire & it prompts them to huddle together, stay calm & weather the elements 🐝 #FolkloreSunday #WeatheringTheStorm

“The sullen murmur of the bees shouldering their way through the long unmown grass, or circling with monotonous insistence round the dusty gilt horns of the straggling woodbine, seemed to make the stillness more oppressive.” 🐝 ― #OscarWilde who died #OTD in 1900 #bookchatweekly

"...Jim said that bees won't sting idiots, but I didn't believe that, because I tried them lots of times myself and they wouldn't sting me..." 🐝 ~ Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, chapter 8. #BookWormSat #GrowingUp #bees
