1. Karen Bradley MP, Chair of the Home Affairs Committee, writes to the policing minister to ask about plans to build "policing capacity to gather open source intelligence from social media" about disorder. She describes such capacity as "increasingly important".
This entire scare story is because Karen Bradley as Chair of the Home Affairs Committee asked the Policing Minister how police social media intelligence capability was coming along. Now the Tory line suddenly is that it is undesirable for the police to have such capability?
Chris Philp has put Karen Brady in a ludicrous position. How can she ask the Policing Minister about building "police capability for social media intelligence" when the position of her party's shadow Home Secretary is that police have no business having anything to do with it?
