NIL collectives are already back in business. The CSC has back tracked on its guidance that collective deals inherently can’t be for a valid business purpose. The contentious issue will now be whether collective deals are within the appropriate “range of compensation.”
Attorneys have resolved a dispute over how the College Sports Commission handles NIL collectives, sources tell @YahooSports, revising its approach to treat them like other businesses - a major move that paves the way for continued collective operations bit.ly/4kVo5od
MLS owners could vote today to switch to a fall-to-spring schedule that would align the league with most of global soccer, including the Big Five European leagues. Any move, if approved, would happen no earlier than 2027.

Can’t tell what’s the best part of this video: the dance, the slide in, or the pitch?? 😮💨
This brings up a good point that I think many people are forgetting. Just because Judge Wilken approved the House settlement, it doesn’t mean any of the new NCAA rules coming out of the settlement terms are legal or exempt from any laws (notably antitrust laws).
By the way, on Sept. 5, 2024, Judge Wilken said she was "quite concerned" about restricting payments from #NIL collectives and questioned why it would be OK for schools to pay athletes for play but not OK for collectives to do the same. This issue is so ripe for escalation.
On Thursday, the new College Sports Commission said, NIL collectives are not a valid business and their deals won't be approved. On Friday, the plaintiff attorneys in House came back and said, hold on there, that violates the settlement. We're only 11 days in to this thing.

The $40 billion youth sports industry is catching the attention of private equity — a development that will raise costs and push youth sports out of reach for everyday Americans. "To increase profits... these firms could raise fees for tournaments, rink time and other assets"
Sorry to be corny, but youth sports are supposed to be extremely cheap and open to everyone. Learning teamwork and sportsmanship with kids from different backgrounds, that sort of stuff.
