@BUDPR
A national advocacy organization of Puerto Ricans in the United States working toward a free, just, and prosperous future for our homeland.
127 years of U.S. colonial rule over Puerto Rico is 127 years too many. Free Puerto Rico!

A free and independent Puerto Rico – restored to full sovereignty and self-determination as a close US ally and trading partner – is an option that could vastly improve the future of that beautiful island. Enjoyed meeting @juandalmauPR to discuss the independence movement.
Independence isn't just the right thing for Puerto Rico: it is the only politically feasible alternative. Republicans will never accept Puerto Rico as a state, but they are ready to talk about a transition to sovereignty. It's time for Democrats to join the conversation!

🇵🇷 VIDEO: Gentrification in Puerto Rico triggers displacement and anger Like many Puerto Ricans, Gloria Cuevas was forced out of her rental home in Rincón by the rising cost of living and an explosion of short-term rentals on the Caribbean island.
Our work in Congress continues: bringing an anticolonial and pro-independence perspective to U.S. political leaders in Washington, D.C. Thank you @RepRoKhanna for always opening your doors and hearing our message!
It was an honor meeting with Former Congressman @LuisGutierrez, Former Puerto Rico Senator @juandalmauPR, @BUDPR representative Chris Soto, and Juan Calderon and Federico de Jesus of the PRCC. Congress must continue to push for the right of Puerto Ricans to decide their own…
We're excited to unveil a new logo that showcases our commitment to Puerto Rico, resistance to colonialism, and the movement for sovereignty. Very grateful to designers Abigail Rodríguez-Colón (abigailr-c.com) and Ricky Rodríguez (rvnsc.com) for this work!

A powerful piece in @LatNewsletter from @EG10029 of @Pwr4PuertoRico. We couldn’t agree more: statehood is nothing but assimilation and submission to white supremacy—the ultimate victory of imperialism and colonialism. Puerto Rico needs independence now! thelatinonewsletter.org/p/end-the-stat…
Boricuas and friends in Colorado: Join us on August 6 for this conversation about Bad Bunny's Puerto Rico: the messages, symbolist, and connections to Puerto Rico's colonial struggles in @sanbenito's music. Free and open to the public! Details + RSVP: budpr.org/bad_bunny_puer…

The financial oversight board created by the U.S. government to run Puerto Rico’s finances forced the island to privatize its power grid to shady companies like New Fortress, which is now essentially extorting Puerto Rico. Blackouts will follow and people will die.

Bad Bunny, arguably the biggest artist in the world, is a vocal believer in Puerto Rico's decolonization and sovereignty. As I wrote last month, it's part of a broader political and cultural trend: massive growth in support for independence. Link in the next tweet!
The Washington Post about Bad Bunny: “He’s a mainstream artist who challenges mainstream expectations…Instead of following industry trends, he takes pride in making music that speaks directly to Puerto Ricans. As he has openly stated, he “does not care” about singing in…
We stand with @jacprcc, our advisor @jessiefor26th, the @Pwr4PuertoRico coalition, and all of the leaders and allies in the Puerto Rican diaspora who are coming together to denounce the intimidation and harassment of our communities.

In 1852, Frederick Douglass denounced the United States for betraying its founding ideals of freedom by allowing slavery. In 2025, a different betrayal continues, as the United States has held Puerto Rico as a colony for 127 years. Read my latest essay in the next tweet.
Today we don't celebrate the independence of the country that has kept Puerto Rico in colonial chains for 127 years. But we remind the world that independence is the right political future for all nations. It was good for the U.S. in 1776 and it is good for Puerto Rico now!
