BMWED
@BMWEDIBT
The BMWED is a national union representing the workers who build and maintain the tracks, bridges, buildings, ET & other structures on the railroads of the USA.
Thanks to @RepMichaelRulli & union rail workers for coming together for an important roundtable conversation about rail safety & worker safety. We met just a few miles from the site of Norfolk Southern's East Palestine derailment more than 2 years ago. Congress needs to pass my…
Thank you @RepDeluzio and @RepMichaelRulli for the powerful discussion and standing with rail labor on prioritizing rail & worker safety. #railsafety
Today I was joined by @RepDeluzio near East Palestine for a strong rail safety roundtable with dozens of union leaders. These workers know the risks better than anyone. Proud to keep pushing for federal rail safety reforms that protect our workers and communities. I look forward…
We’re incredibly proud of Brothers Clawges and Sanders, courageous members of the BMWED. Moments like these remind us of the special breed MOW employees are, always looking out for one another and for the communities we move through every day — just doing what railroaders do.

The BMWED-IBT with several other rail unions, is hosting a town hall in Columbiana, OH — located about 20 miles from East Palestine, OH — to engage the community on the railroad industry's push to reduce safety by prioritizing automated technologies over human visual inspections.

Big Rail wants to cut human safety inspectors and hand the job to robots. Why? Because it’s cheaper. Doesn’t matter that OVER HALF of derailments involve problems computers can’t even detect. This is corporate greed putting lives at risk.
NEWS: Rail lobbyists are pressing Trump regulators to slash human inspections of tracks & use computer technology instead, according to documents reviewed by The Lever. 56% of track-related derailments “involved conditions [computers] cannot detect.” levernews.com/rail-barons-pu…
In July 1887, John T. Wilson and a group of foremen gathered in Demopolis, AL, forging the foundation of what would become the BMWED-IBT. Born in an era of brutal working conditions and labor strife, our legacy is one of resilience and solidarity. 🇺🇸 🔗 bmwe.org/beginning

“Lowering the standard,” as track inspector Tyler Pavich says here, is a betrayal of safety. Decreasing visual safety inspections erodes the trust we have placed upon them to keep trains on the track, prevent injuries and deaths, and avoid catastrophes. #ATI #railsafety
Happy Independence Day! Stay safe and enjoy the day. 🇺🇸🚂 #independenceday2025 #4thofJuly

Happy founder's month to @BMWEDIBT! Since 1887, they have fought to raise the bar for rail safety. Last week, President Tony Cardwell testified before @TransportDems & @TransportGOP on behalf of the workers who build and maintain our nation's railroads. youtube.com/watch?v=k-Jl_9…
BMWED Legislative Department Responds to Rail Worker Exclusion from OBBB’s “No Taxation on Overtime” bmwe.org/secondary.aspx… #OBBB

Under the AAR’s recently submitted waiver, railroads using ATI technology would have up to 72 hours to respond to a known defect, delaying critical repairs to hazards already present on active mainline tracks. #ATI #Railsafety @ValerieFoushee
Rail workers are unfairly excluded from the “No Tax on Overtime” provision in the #OBBB. Support @MariaCantwell's amendment #2613 to fix it and ensure BMWED members are eligible for no tax on OT. url.us.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/q3CGCo28VKs6…

Tell your Senators to oppose and remove the AI moratorium in the budget reconciliation bill, which would prohibit states from regulating AI and automation for 10 years. If the moratorium language stays in the reconciliation bill and this ban goes through, it will be one of the…
"There's no preventative maintenance being done by ATI" (Automated Track Inspection) Thank you for your important and well-considered question, Congresswoman @repdinatitus. #railsafety #ATI
If the AI moratorium language stays in the reconciliation bill and this ban goes through, it will be one of the largest federal takeovers of state power in U.S. history. It will send our country into a spiral from which we cannot recover. It will lead to a future where states are…
Buried in the reconciliation bill is a ban on all U.S. states from regulating AI or automation. That means no state oversight of driverless trucks, AI surveillance, or job-killing automation. It’s a power grab by Big Tech — and a direct threat to workers and states’ rights.…
No matter the profession, people strive for purpose and excellence. BMWED track inspectors are no different. Their skill, dedication & commitment to safety make them indispensable. Every day, they go above and beyond to keep trains on track and prevent disaster. #RailSafety #ATI
Today, we salute the Railroad Dads. Early risers, hard workers, problem solvers, and everyday heroes at home or wherever they’re needed. Happy Father’s Day, and thank you for all you do. #fathersday

"Our Tape Measurers Don’t Need Calibrating" From the biggest cities to the smallest, little towns, those living or working near railroad tracks are susceptible to catastrophe. Technology (Geometry Cars) holds with it lingering doubt and risk. #ATI #Railsafety
Track inspection is more than just strict adherence to the specs. Automated robotics do not gain experience. Artificial intelligence is not conceptional. Technology does not possess intuition. And intuition saves lives. #ATI #railsafety
