Thread about wartime sexual violence- Comparing previous GBV data in the community or the usual increase of GBV during emergencies with wartime sexual violence is being ignorant on the subject matter at best or purposely being malicious at worst. 1/n
Proud of my sister @nebyatina, who was selected for the Oxford Climate Journalism Network (OCJN), a program by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford @UniofOxford. A well-deserved opportunity. reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/members-oxford…
The unavailability of fuel in Tigray should have been concerning. For a long time, fuel has not been entering Tigray. Bajaj drivers buy fuel for more than 250 birr per liter. It is not hard to imagine how this strains the community and also public services in Tigray.

On average, baking injera for a family would take about 45 minutes in Addis. On the other hand, in Mekelle it takes about 3-4 hours, costing much energy and time. Western dishes such as lasagna that would take 50 mins in Addis, in Mekelle it takes 3-4 hours. I don't understand why
This is a voicemail from my mother that she sent me in January. In between her cries and broken voice she says these words. She starts saying “I won’t say much”, because if messages are past 30 sec, it will be impossible to send. Inspired by @GirmaiY 1/3
According to a study conducted by the Tigray Youth Association, 81% of surveyed youth in Tigray were unemployed.Their livelihoods were destroyed, businesses were looted and burned, uprooted from areas where they could sustain their daily bread. @YoungLivesETH, this is wrong
I know @YoungLivesETH blocked me long time ago, but I had to bring this here. I have lots of questions on the ethical and methodological integrity of this “research” work. 👇🏻
One of the women I admire, @kokobGebruk has published a self-care guide for health professionals and frontline workers in Tigrigna. Such initiatives are very much needed for a community that has gone through a genocide that has disabled the entire health system.

Talking with @TeklehaymanotG, reading his articles, and listening to him is very pleasing. The clarity of his thoughts, his effort to document, and his focus make me envy him.Maybe one day, we will collaborate. Listening to this interview is worth your time youtube.com/watch?v=Ea383e…
Working with @WHO was one of the highlights of my career. @DrTedros's unwavering leadership made the WHO very diverse and innovative. His humanity always surpassed any political line.
The #TIME100 includes me this year, but I think of it as recognition of my colleagues at @WHO, who work day in, day out, in cities, villages and places of conflict, in pursuit of our goal of promoting #HealthForAll. I would like to thank my friend @larrybrilliant for the…

I am always proud of what @kokobGebruk keeps on doing, and her responses to the interview are excellent. The discussion gives an insight into mental health, CRSV, and gender equality. Questions from the host are uninformed and uneducated. youtube.com/watch?app=desk…
Eritrean soldiers debilitated Mariam Shewito, they gang-raped women and children for days, mutilated, and murdered them. Those who were murdered were not granted burial while their loved ones watched them decompose. I will never understand such bestiality.
According to the Genocide Commission, there are more than 700 mass graves throughout Tigray. Mariam Shewito is one of the most severely punished villages in proportion to its population. #Tigray #MariamShewito #War #Ethiopia
Trauma isn't what happens to you. It's what happens INSIDE you when you lack the resources to cope. Conventional wisdom about trauma is dangerously incomplete. Here’s what no one tells you about trauma—and how to heal from it: 🧵
