I am proud of the heads of all Israeli universities for not giving up. Please take a minute and read it. Academic institutions, especially here in the US, should do better!
“We find ourselves facing a war on two fronts: one against the atrocities of Hamas, and another in the global arena of public opinion. Regrettably, we have noticed an alarming trend in which Israel, despite its right to self-defense, is mischaracterized as an oppressor. This is a…
Super elegant work by the most competent person on the south side of the office. Bravo, @Nathan_the_Gray, and the rest of the team. So much thought and caffeine were given to each experiment, analysis, and figure. The resulting manuscript is beautiful.
Happy to announce the release of my work in the Komiyama lab, in which we try to understand more about the function of new synapses that form during learning. We all have an intuition about how new synapses change our brain and behavior (1/n)...nature.com/articles/s4159…
Two papers dropping by Ryoma Hattori in the lab. This one in @CellRepMethods describes PatchWarp, a non-rigid motion correction algorithm for 2photon images. Open source, free to use!
Our PatchWarp paper is out @CellRepMethods! PatchWarp corrects fast motion artifacts and slow image distortions in calcium imaging data. It can also register images across sessions. cell.com/cell-reports-m…
After a transformative postdoc with @takaki_komiyama—truly one of the best places to learn how to think like a scientist—it's time to move on. I'll be starting my own lab at Tel Aviv University this summer. I'm grateful to all the wonderful people who helped me along the way🙏
Our new paper is out in Science. What is the synaptic plasticity rule in the brain, we asked. It turns out there are multiple, even within individual neurons. Congrats Jake! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
New paper led by @S_Blumenstock shows that targeted stimulation of a subtype of cortical inhibitory neurons can ameliorate motor deficits in Huntington’s disease mice. A great collab with @IrinaDudanova biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Excited to be speaking at 2pm today at the symposium at S406A! #sfn2024
Come say hi to us in Chicago! #sfn2024

Proud of Prof. Alon Chen, my PhD mentor and President of @WeizmannScience for his strong words.
A letter from the @WeizmannScience president, Alon Chen, to the president of @Harvard, Claudine Gay (identical letters were sent to presidents of @MIT and @Penn). Thanks Alon for the clarity, which is actually so obvious.
I try to spare my international friends the gruesome details of what’s going on here. But I recently talked to a friend who apparently had no idea that the casualties were civilians, abducted from their homes and taken to Gaza. This is just one story of dozens. Think about them.
If you are a student from diverse background underrepresented in neuroscience research and wish to start your academic journey in neuroscience by working at the top labs, I highly recommend applying.
The Simons Foundation Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Neuroscience (SURFiN) is now open for applications! The program’s goal is to spark & sustain interest in neuroscience among students from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in neuro research. simonsfoundation.org/2023/03/23/sim…
My friend (An Wu, Komiyama lab, UCSD, tiny little Asian girl with so much energy) who went to Cosyne (Montreal) was missing after the old Montreal fire. Shout out to any cosyne participants who might have seen her in the recent two days. #cosyne23 @CosyneMeeting
My friend was in an Airbnb in the building. We cannot contact her now! Does anyone see an Asian female around there? Any info helps!
Pls RT: Why are certain neurons tuned while others are not? Whe do only certain neurons have stable tuning properties? DM me if you're interested in these q's, we are seeking to recruit a grad student/PD for an AWESOME project on the genetic basis of functionally defined neurons.
1/ Our new paper is out online in Neuron @NeuroCellPress. This is Chi Ren's main thesis project and all the other authors are former undergrads who worked with Chi over the years. Congrats Chi et al.! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…, open access link authors.elsevier.com/a/1f5G63BtfH1Y…
Our protocol for an ultra-large cranial window and longitudinal 2-photon calcium imaging is out @STARProtocols! I hope this protocol will be useful to many. Get more data with larger craniotomy. star-protocols.cell.com/protocols/1599
