A question from Insta for me about my video if - has ever mentioned your striking resemblance to bob mortimer? Which is apparantly all they want to know for Ask an arch day as they haven't engaged since. Well as archaeologists we cover any topic….
A strong theme this afternoon has been pay vs passion. It’s an important topic and we all need to don more to help people thrive in archaeology. We have done much about creating a pipeline of new talent, maybe now is the time we think about how we retain talent & help it thrive
Thank you David for looking after the last hour. I’m here folks to see you to the end of the live posting and responding @RedfernNeil @archaeologyuk #AskAnArchaeologist Day
Oh, and finally from me (David)...you're wrong!
3. This last one is more about settling an argument in my household this afternoon, and I figure the archaeological community will swing the poll, but... What is the correct way to remove a tea bag from a mug? #AskAnArchaeologist #FestivalofArchaeology
Thanks for all of the #AskanArchaeologist chats - some challenging themes on employment but important that they are vocalised. I'm signing off now, but Neil will be taking us home to the end of the day.
Prof Dave Coombs late of Manchester in the days when the department was tiny and we all did joint honours. Introduced me to the Bronze Age of these islands off NW Europe. Hooked ever since.
Like the post, dislike the reality - wages in archaeology remain an ongoing challenge, and a huge issue in relation to #wellbeing. #askanarchaeologist #festivalofarchaeology
Hugely difficult.. and this is an aspect of archaeology we really need to look very closely at if we are going to talk about wellbeing. The BAJR Poverty Impact Reports from 2022 & 2024 show we've got huge issues in the sector. P.S. Join a union... bajr.org/wp-content/upl…
Very...? It's often said that ours is a field of passion. Has anyone in our archaeological community reached a point of feeling "well paid", and how long did it take you to get there? #AskanArchaeologist
Question from Insta: How difficult is it to get a well-paying job in archaeology and where would you start looking? #AskAnArchaeologist
Our @archaeologyuk team will be running with #AskanArchaeologist day through to 6pm, but the archaeology community will be carrying the day through well into the evening.
Today is #AskAnArchaeologist Day! AMA (about #RealArchaeology) during my livestream today at 6:30pm UK/1:30pm EDT. Hope to see you there! youtube.com/live/cEx-0sjGs…
One of my heros was the late Jens Ipsen from Denmark who kept involving in archaeology despite his MS. I also like Cornelius Holtorf for his always original thinking. Then there are earlier female professors like Ruth Whitehouse who were trailblazers.
My bad, there should have been a third tea option...
The right answer: you do not remove it but enjoy a strong brew 😉
