Japan: The LDP (Conservative) has won 21.7% on the national proportional block, along with 12 seats. This is the worst performance for the party ever on a national scale in terms of popular vote.

Japan: The Social Democratic Party of Japan (Centre-left) has narrowly maintained its party status after winning 2.1% of the vote and one seat in the House of Councillors. 2% is the requirement for parties to gain legal status in Japan.

Japan: The LDP-Komei governing coalition has lost its majority by a margin of 4 seats in the House of Councillors. They will be forced to try to find a new governing partner to work with to pass legislation in the upper house.

Japan: Exit polls have Sansei (Right) winning between 15-16 seats. This is the best result for the party ever.

According to exit polls from TV Asahi, TBS, TV Tokyo, and Fuji, Komei (Centre-right) will win just 8 seats, its worse result since the refounding of the party. NTV has the party at 9 seats, which would mark its worse result since 2010.

According to NHK, Team Mirai (*) has entered the House of Councillors on the proportional block. The party is centered around ex-Tokyo governor candidate Takahiro Anno, and proclaims itself a "technocratic party".
Japan: Exit polls project that the current LDP-Komei coalition will lose it's majority in the upper house by a margin of 8-14 seats. It is the first time since 2009 they lack majorities in both houses of the Diet.
