"Developing an agreement to replace the New START Treaty is in the interests of peace," ACA executive director @DarylGKimball tells TASS in response to @POTUS comments tass.ru/mezhdunarodnay… Video of Trump's remarks are here: tass.ru/mezhdunarodnay…
So the total cost of boats 1-3 increased by 12.4% from FY25 to FY26. And that is unlikely to be the end of the cost growth. Which begs a significant question: How much headroom is left before a critical Nunn-McCurdy breach and can the program stay under it? (4/4)
Per the FY26 request, an updated Navy cost estimate and CAPE independent cost estimate are in the works. GAO indicated earlier this year the “revised cost estimate expected to be completed in 2025 will include increased total acquisition costs.” gao.gov/assets/gao-25-… (3/n)
FY25 1st boat (826) estimate: 15.179 billion FY26 826 estimate: $16.121 billion (+6.2%) FY 25 2nd boat (827): 9.283 billion FY26 827: $10.688 billion (+15%) FY 25 3rd boat (828): $8.755 billion FY26 828: $10.543 billion (+20%) (2/n)
As noted👇 the cost of the first boat in the Columbia SSBN class has risen to $16.1 billion. But per a comparison of the FY26 and FY25 Navy shipbuilding budget requests, the first boat is not alone in experiencing cost growth. (1/n)
We break: The Navy raised the estimated price tag for the first of its next-generation nuclear-missile submarines by $1.7 billion, another black eye for a program that’s the centerpiece of the service’s modernization plans bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
UK to purchase F-35As and join NATO nuclear mission. This departure from the UK's solely sea-based nuclear force reflects heightened concern over Russian nuclear threats and uncertainty over the U.S. security guarantee to NATO members. July/Aug '25 ACT: ow.ly/T7fu50Wvogb

"On 4/22/25, a terrorist attack ripped through the town of Pahalgam in the disputed territory of Kashmir. Minutes later, a crisis between nuclear rivals India and Pakistan was in the making..." writes Moeed Yusuf in his #ACT feature. Full article here ow.ly/svRe50Wvna1

Time to translate the talk into action. A first step should be an interim deal to keep current limits after New START expires while a more robust framework is negotiated. "Trump says he wants to maintain nuclear limits with Russia." reuters.com/business/aeros…

“Children in the Gaza Strip are starving to death," reports @unicef. And the U.S. is complicit. We can debate the terminology to apply, but it is unconscionable that in 2025 the United States and most of the international community are averting their eyes from this.
Breaking: In comments today, Trump calls for maintaining strategic nuclear arms limits. In response, "ACA Calls for Interim Deal Not to Exceed New START Limits Until U.S., Russia Hammer Out New Framework Deal." See our press release: armscontrol.org/pressroom/2025…

Dumb decision by DOD. Pentagon participation in think tank conferences, panels, etc helps inform non-governmental experts and public about DOD policies. And DOD participants sometimes learn a thing or two.
SCOOP: The Pentagon is suspending participation in think tank events until further notice, per an email obtained by @politico, a major shift in engagement. It comes a week after DOD pulled out of Aspen Security Forum citing “the evil of globalism." politico.com/news/2025/07/2…
