On July 19, 1973, DPS Officer & Volunteer Firefighter Alan Hansen (#204) died of injuries suffered 14 days prior when a railroad tanker carrying butane exploded in Kingman. In total, 13 people were killed & 112 were injured. Read more: azdps.gov/alan-h-hansen #WeWillNeverForget

Every driver can help prevent wildfires by taking a few simple precautions... 🔸Secure tow chains 🔸Keep vehicles away from dry grass 🔸Ensure tires & brakes are in good condition 🔸Properly dispose of cigarettes 🔸Call 911 to report vehicles dragging chains or throwing sparks

On July 4, 1995, Sgt. Michael L. Crowe #2729 & Yuma PD Lt. Danny Elkins were shot when they came across a burglary at SW Border Alliance in Yuma. They were killed by intruder Jack Hudson, a sheriff’s deputy. Sgt. Crowe died of his injuries on July 5. Hudson served life in prison.

Today we remember Sergeant Mark Dryer (#9764). On July 3, 1993, Sgt. Dryer was struck and killed by a passing vehicle while standing near a motorist during a traffic stop south of Phoenix. The at-fault driver was under the influence of drugs & was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Today we remember Sergeant David Zesiger (#1848). On July 3, 1992, Sgt. Zesiger was guiding a family to a campsite in McNary when his patrol vehicle was hit head-on by a drunk driver. Sgt. Zesiger was killed, and the at-fault driver was sentenced to 4 years in federal prison.
