Is the effect of HDL cholesterol on coronary heart disease of interest? Are the assumptions of Mendelian randomization in this situation "vaguely reasonable"? And except for RCTs and MR which causal inference approach got close to the right answer? Interested in views on these
Well the estimand of the effect of circulating HDL cholesterol on CHD was of enough interest that billions of dollars were spent on RCTs. MR studies with "vaguely reasonable" assumptions provided null estimates, which were seen in RCTs academic.oup.com/ije/article/49…
