Thank you @malariagenomics for this amazing Genomics Epidemiology Meeting! I had never caught up with so many collaborators and friends in a single conference :-) Can't wait for the next one

“A large majority of P. falciparum infections remain asymptomatic. This is still not well understood and remains a challenge for malaria elimination.” @ant1_claessens presented results from a study looking at how var genes switch and recur in chronic malaria infections. #GEM2024

Prof Dominic Kwiatkowski's final paper, exploring the thorniest challenges of malaria transmission, is posthumously published today. His close collaborators and friends give their thoughts on this intellectually impressive work and its legacy. malariagen.net/article/domini…
! Stop judging a paper by its Journal's impact factor ! There is a less skewed way: the Relative Citation Ratio. The number of citations of a paper is normalised within that very specific research field. Type a name here : icite.od.nih.gov/analysis With thanks to @GEWard14
A tenure track position (CPJ) on AI and multiscale modeling in biology and bio-medicine is available this year in my team. The CPJ offers an accelerated track to professorship, reduced teaching duties and attractive starting grant. Please spread the word. systems-biology-lphi.cnrs.fr/CPJ/

The most interesting epi-genomics paper I've read in a while! All around Africa, ~1% of P. falciparum parasites are genetically distinct from the rest. More specifically, they contain highly differentiated variants, as if they adapted to a different niche evolutionary niche.
Finally, it's out! Thank you to the many collaborators who generously contributed samples to MalariaGEN. A complex Plasmodium falciparum cryptotype circulating at low frequency across the African continent biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
