Grief… I lost my father to cancer in 2023. He was 48, a man with all wonderful habits of the world. Kindest to people around, loveliest, softest, best father, best husband, best son, best brother, best colleague, and so on. Still cancer came, hidden, aggressively, as it does.

I am happy to share that my long-awaited essay on "The problem of the Rupee" (1923) by Ambedkar is finally out on @CriticalDev developingeconomics.org/2025/07/08/mor…
NEW POST: @ChikotiSrihari takes B. R. Ambedkar's 1923 article "The problem of the rupee: its origin and its solution" as an entry point for discussing the evolution of different currency regimes that prevailed during the colonial time period. developingeconomics.org/2025/07/08/mor…
My friend @ChikotiSrihari has an excellent piece in @CriticalDev that explores the overlooked brilliance of Ambedkar’s "The Problem of the Rupee" (1923). Please give it a read. developingeconomics.org/2025/07/08/mor…

Inequality in food consumption is stark - based on physical activity those poorer would need higher calories - we see the exact opposite. And in general, diet quality is poor & cereal-heavy especially those in lower strata. + some puzzles remain. thewire.in/political-econ…
Fine analysis by @sinhadipa on consumption inequality. "While 50% of hh in the lowest fractile (0-5%) hh on an average consume less than 80% of the required norm, it is very low in the case of the uppermost fractile (95-100%)." thewire.in/economy/tracki…
An excellent piece in The Hindu today by Prof. Rahul Menon: low consumption inequality (if at all this is the case- numbers are disputed) does not mean a fair economy. Income and wealth inequality in India have never been higher. Do read this.

"Our ability to feel, speak, or act for Gaza is being defused.... If we don't resist, this will be the end of humanity."
How gig workers struggle between flexibility and insecurity? What are the challenges faced by gig workers in ensuring social security, minimum wages, and protection from exploitation? My piece for @IndianExpress indianexpress.com/article/upsc-c…
An excellent, eye-opening interview with Prof. @FiercelyBahujan on the Caste Census. She explains why it matters and unpacks many of the concerns and nuances around it. Highly recommended.
"The census is not just a ‘governmentality’ or an administrative data map, but about how the data can help us achieve social equity". In my interview published with Outlook India, I discuss different facets of the caste census. outlookindia.com/national/witho…

Polio was eradicated because Jonas Salk chose not to patent the vaccine, if you want a perfect example of a socialist act.
Socialism is like polio, it comes back when people forget about the horrible damage it did last time.
@Swathysree_ss and I argue @thewire_in that India’s rise in global GDP ranking can’t be credited solely to the last decade’s growth. thewire.in/economy/it-is-…
