Facts: This war plan was messaged two hours before the scheduled start of the bombing. If this had fallen into the wrong hands in that crucial two-hour period, the consequences for American pilots could have been catastrophic. theatlantic.com/politics/archi…
The Atlantic has conceded: these were NOT “war plans.” This entire story was another hoax written by a Trump-hater who is well-known for his sensationalist spin.
I spoke to Terry Gross today about this story. Listen here (or wherever you get yr podcasts, as they say). npr.org/2025/07/07/nx-…

“Everyone knows that 79 is the tank birthday. One is paper, 77 is emoluments, 78 you get to destroy one constitutional amendment of your choosing, 80 you get to become the state, but 79 is tanks, and I was so looking forward to my tank birthday.” theatlantic.com/newsletters/ar…
“The president cares nothing for the military, for its history, or for the men and women who serve the United States. ... Today, he showed that he has no compunction about turning every American soldier into a hooting partisan.” theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
Let me tell you why this is the perfect suit for @Shteyngart. The reasons involve the subtle codes and history woven into men's tailoring.
It took a team of skilled tailors and travel across three continents to create a bespoke suit that would transform Gary Shteyngart. Watch his lifetime of fashion misery come to an end: theatln.tc/nWNQpg2b
Subtitle Musk edited away is: “The Tesla innovator becomes the latest government employee to lose his job.” See here! theatlantic.com/politics/archi…
Interesting that @elonmusk removed the subtitle from the screenshot he shared of this deeply reported @AshleyRParker and @michaelscherer story… x.com/elonmusk/statu…

Incredible story: theatlantic.com/politics/archi…
This is the proper way to begin a story.
Coming tomorrow is The Atlantic’s June cover story, by staff writers Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer. Ashley and Michael have interviewed President Donald Trump twice along with dozens of top advisers, senior aides, allies, and adversaries. (1/3)

NEW: When RFK Jr. met with families of two girls who died from measles, he raised doubts about the safety of vaccines: “You don’t know what’s in the vaccine anymore.” One father didn’t know RFK posted photos of his family or released his child’s full name theatlantic.com/health/archive…
"I just want to note for the record that I did not suck my phone number into his phone. ...There is an explanation for why my phone number was in Mike Waltz's phone, and very frequently in reporting we find out that the obvious explanation is the correct explanation."
During an interview with Laura Ingraham, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz claimed that Jeffrey Goldberg's phone number got "sucked" into his phone. "I just want to note for the record that I did not suck my phone number into his phone," said @JeffreyGoldberg.
This is extremely misleading, not least of all because a CIA spokesperson asked us yesterday not to publish that person's name. And, to be clear, The Atlantic has continued to withhold publication of that person's name. From the story:
1 big thing: @TheAtlantic's Story of the year — A spokesperson for The Atlantic said it was "one of the top subscription-driving stories" for the magazine OF ALL TIME — Most viral story of the year BY FAR, per SimilarWeb axios.com/newsletters/ax… #axiosmediatrends

Attempts to disparage and discredit The Atlantic, our editor, and our reporting follow an obvious playbook by elected officials and others in power who are hostile to journalists and the First Amendment rights of all Americans.

Marty Baron for @TheAtlantic: “I led the newsroom at the time Bezos bought the Post. For a long while, he fulfilled his promise to the paper and its readers, exceeding my expectations. Then he faltered badly.” theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
As other parts of the government have restarted health research funding, officials at HHS have pressed staff at NIH to ignore court orders, with the message to hold off and maintain the pause on grants. Big story from @KatherineJWu: theatlantic.com/health/archive…
