Today is the Feast of St Christopher. This is an engraving of painting of St. Christopher with the Christ child from Sedgeford church. It appeared in Gentleman's magazine in 1843. It was donated to the museum by Prince Frederick Duleep Singh.

#OnThisDay in 1932 Bury Free Press reported: Thetford Boy Scouts camped at Two Mile Bottom. They enjoyed swimming, fishing, and cricket. "It was wonderful time, as some the boys had not experienced open air conditions before. All behaved well and did the job like men."

#OnThisDay in 1741 David Garrick made his first public appearance her at theatre in Tankard street, Ipswich, Suffolk. This engraving by Dale (1821) shows old theatre with notice about Garrick on the front, various figures in the street.

#OnThisDay in 1862 the Whitby Gazette reported: "The Maharajah. —His Highness the Maharajah Duleep Singh left Mulgrave Castle on Monday, and took his departure the 5.25 p.m. train from Whitby en route to Scotland."

This photograph was taken #OnThisDay in 1919. It shows the Mayor and councillors outside the Guildhall, with the town regalia placed on a union jack on a table as part of the Peace Celebrations.

It's #NationalTattooDay This postcard probably shows a soldier receiving a tattoo while in military service during the First World War. It comes from a collection of material relating to the Burrell family of Thetford.

Today's @artukdotorg #OnlineArtExchange theme is self portraits. This is a head and shoulders self-portrait of Thomas Bardwell (1704-1767). On the lower right side of the picture is text reading 'Bardwell was 61 years old when he made this picture, Anno 1765'.

It's #NationalCherryDay This portrait from about 1709 shows a child feeding a dog with some cherries. What is your favourite cherry dish? The painting was given to the museum by Prince Frederick Duleep Singh. It was probably by J. Brooks. @artukdotorg

Arthur Ealand was deputy town clerk. In 1915 he became commander of the Thetford Volunteer Training Corps (VTC). This was a force of local volunteers who defended Thetford. Arthur later joined the 88th Squadron of the Royal Air Force. He was killed on #OnThisDay in 1918.

#OnThisDay in 1920 Admiral of the Fleet Lord Fisher of Kilverstone's funeral took place in Thetford. This #PostcardsAH shows part of his funeral parade.

#OnThisDay in 1923 ‘Lady Astor’s Bill’ succeeded. It prevented the sale of alcohol to anyone under the age of 18. It won by 257 votes to 10. It was the first Private Member's Bill by a woman to be passed and become an Act of Parliament. Prince of Wales pub, Kenninghall in 1928.
