In this week's Middy column, I reflect on my visit to the Burgess Hill Pantry - such an inspiring example of the power of community and of what can be achieved when people work with, rather than against, each other. Have a read here: sussexexpress.co.uk/news/opinion/p…

I am so cross that the government refuses to acknowledge that their decision to reduce per child funding from the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund is having damaging consequences for traumatised and vulnerable children helped by organisations like @JigsawOT
Cuts to the Adoption and Special Guardianship Fund are having a heartbreaking impact on services which support vulnerable children. @AlisonEBennett challenged the Government to reassure those affected
I have signed a letter to the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary calling for the UK to recognise the state of Palestine. There is more that the UK can and should do, but this is a key diplomatic lever that must be used in pursuit of ending this terrible war.
221 MPs, from 9 parties, have sent a joint letter to the Prime Minister & Foreign Secretary urging them to recognise Palestine as a state now
🧑🎨 Yesterday, I joined the Drawing Life group in Bexhill for their monthly class. This initiative, run by Judy and a team of local artists, provides a lifeline for people and their carers. Thank you for being so welcoming and choosing me as your model for the week.

Britain must do the same.
Consistent with its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine. I will make this solemn announcement before the United Nations General Assembly this coming September.…
🌊 On Friday, I visited the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm and learnt more about the plans for the Rampion 2 project. Offshore wind energy offers huge opportunities for our country. Good luck to RWE in this new venture, and thank you for inviting me along.

On Sunday, I joined Mid Sussex Parkinson's branch at their 'Picnic in the Park'. This branch provides vital support groups and advice for those living with Parkinson's and their loved ones: localsupport.parkinsons.org.uk/provider/mid-s… Thank you for inviting me and organising such a great event.

👩🔧 Last week, I got to visit Steve Willis Training Centre in Burgess Hill, which offers apprenticeships in electric and heat engineering, as well as now training their students on heat pumps. Thank you to Steve and the team for showing me around your brilliant training centre.

What an inspiring visit to Oaktree Farm Care the other week! 🌱 It was great to meet Megan, who showed me around their incredible facilities. This is exactly the kind of innovative, community-led support that makes such a difference.
On @CarersTrust #ProtestFromHome, I was proud to present a Bill in @HouseofCommons that, if enacted, would make it a legal right for carers to access respite care.

I've signed the petition to give carers a legal right to a break. Will you?
If carers ever had time for a break, what would they do? Help us call on the UK Government to give carers a legal right to a break. Sign the petition: carers.org/protest #ProtestfromHome
22/07 Protest From Home. A first-of-its-kind protest outside Parliament, calling on the UK Government to give carers the right to time off, in partnership with @uncommon_studio Sign the petition at carers.org/protest #ProtestFromHome
Experiences like Oliver's are why I was proud to table a Bill in Parliament today that would give unpaid carers the right to respite care.
You may have seen Oliver's image as part of our #ProtestFromHome Like many young carers, he will be spending his summer caring for a family member, with no time for himself. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
The indiscriminate killing of Palestinians who are desperately queuing for food is truly abhorrent. So, yesterday, I asked the Foreign Secretary whether he thinks the UK has done everything possible to bring this suffering to an end.
🏫 At a recent Westminster Hall Debate on Further Education Institutions, I mentioned Haywards Heath College and the importance of extending pupil premium funding for further education colleges, to benefit disadvantaged students and ensure financial sustainability.
Jigsaw Occupational Therapy in Burgess Hill provides life-changing support for children who have suffered trauma. The government's decision to cut funding is shocking. The Minister's answer today was no better. Children who have suffered trauma deserve our help.
It was such a lovely evening and a pleasure to join you.
Last week it was my absolute pleasure to host an event with @EdwardJDavey and many friends from Muslim Charities & organisations. At a time when there is so much hostility towards Muslims, what a joy to join @LibDems in such a happy celebration together. Thanks to all who came.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the gravest public health threats confronting the world. AMR is projected to cause 39 million deaths by 2050. It is a direct threat to the UK that demands urgent action, not shortsighted funding cuts. thetimes.com/article/e1448c…
💧 Our water system is broken. Leaks, sewage spills, hosepipe bans – and a £1.4m payday for Southern Water’s CEO. Mid Sussex deserves better. I’m pushing for bold reform and real accountability. #StopTheSewage #LibDems #MidSussex 📬 Read it here: midsussexlibdems.org.uk/news/article/o…

On Thursday, I visited Burgess Hill Pantry to learn more about the incredible work they do. The Pantry is a charity dedicated to tackling food poverty. Their work really showcases the best of our community. Thank you for the warm welcome, I will definitely be back again.
