haha pretty funny how finding your glasses REQUIRES THE VERY GLASSES YOU SEEK
Apropos of Coldplaygate, I am reupping my essay for @BostonGlobe @GlobeIdeas about how we now live in the Grassroots Panopticon: bostonglobe.com/2024/06/20/opi…
Another MAHA victory! Here’s hoping other cigarette companies go organic too, so Americans can finally light up their cigarette of choice, open a bag of naturally colored Tostitos, drink a Coke made with real cane sugar, and know they are living the healthy MAHA lifestyle!
.@PepsiCo just announced it will eliminate artificial colors and flavors from Lay’s and Tostitos by year’s end—and expand the use of avocado and olive oil in place of canola and soybean oil. I urge every other food company to follow their lead and join the movement to Make…
Another strange effect of AI is to make instant simulated niche expertise much easier. "ChatGPT, give me ten examples of novels that have primate characters," then you reel them off in your essay or talk, and it seems as if you're extremely well read. This is bad IMO.
“At the next vacancy for God, if I am elected, I shall forgive last the delicately wounded… …the meek by trade…” John Ciardi with one of my favorite poems, “In Place of a Curse.”

Nothing involuntary about it!
Approaching as a man is a humiliation ritual that only serves to boost women's ego. There is nothing masculine about humiliating yourself.
by popular request I have written an uncharacteristically fast and slightly furious take on the whole Coldplay adulterers situation for @thefp
One common question for book collectors like me is “what’s the most valuable book you own?” It’s hard to say without sending something to auction, but my guess is it’s this beat up, later printing of Robert Frost’s North of Boston…in which he wrote a pretty iconic line!

You never know what will happen if you reach out to an author you admire and ask them to sign a book! I mailed this to Cavell in grad school…

I love checking on what happens with difficult translations. Here, the pun in the English title is lost. The rest of the book has many cultural and linguistic challenges.
Scored a 2009 Chinese translation of The Medium is the Massage and it is awesome.
