Watching the world go a little crazier about things it doesn’t need to go crazy about.
These contracts - and there are many more - how is work done in the USA (and elsewhere), be counted as "British"? Jobs = not in the UK, taxes = not paid in the UK, IP = no longer British.
Martin Baker (quoted by @meaglemp), built a new factory to produce ejection seats for the F-35. In Pennsylvania... Oh, and those vertical/horizontal stabilisers built by BAES at Samlesbury? thedefensepost.com/2022/12/13/mag… Sub-contracted to a Canadian firm for a major part.
RR states in annual reports that 75-80% by value of lift fan is in the USA. @BAESystemsplc designs and builds the EW suite. In Nashua, NH. GKN has $5-6m per F-35 - but 90% comes out of US-based factories.
And back to my favourite beef, the "At least 15%: approximate percentage value of each F-35 aircraft that is produced by UK companies". @NAO, by repeating this, you give credence to a completely bogus figure. To repeat: the lift fan (Rolls Royce) is produced in Indianapolis...
It is an immense honour to be appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff and to have the privilege of leading our fantastic Armed Forces in protecting the UK, our allies and our interests around the world.

Did you write this, @FTusa284?!😆
✈️ Not replacing existing fighter planes with new Typhoons would be a tremendous act of national self-harm. @GOVUK ministers need to stop dancing around their handbags and announce that we will be purchasing new T5 Typhoons. #Defence 🧵1⃣

🇬🇧 Great to see this work progressing and, as many jobs as F-35 sustains building back ends in Lancashire, it does nothing to help sustain skills for the UK. Only #GCAP and @eurofighter Typhoon will do that. @JohnHealey_MP @Keir_Starmer @RoyalAirForce @BAESystemsAir
With all the excitement surrounding tri-lateral #GCAP at @FIAFarnborough, it's easy to forget the UK has its own #Tempest demonstrator running in parallel. @BAESystemsAir announces it has passed the critical design review, with first flight still on track for 2027. #FIA2024 1/4
Now is the time of year when families and friends come together to reflect and hopefully re-charge. Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston, has recorded the following, to reflect another demanding year supporting global operations, and thank the RAF whole force
Looking forward to contortions the Torygraph is going to have to pull when @Team_Luftwaffe confirms the @eurofighter element of the Tornado replacement plan...

Interesting thread on the Finland decision. F-35 sounds like a good deal of Finland gets what it has been promised….. 👀 @FTusa284
Thread on Finnish #Hxhanke presser and decision, which is…
Finland Selects the F-35 The Finnish government chose the F-35 as the winner of the HX Program. By selecting the F-35, Finland gains a significant capability to ensure stability in the region.
Not sure how I missed this last week. More beautiful jets in the world. 🇫🇷
BREAKING: UAE signs a huge contract with France for the acquisition of 80 Rafale F4 fighter jets.
You’ve started something here, @FTusa284!
Turha puhua F-35:n korkeista lentotuntikustannuksista. Norjan ilmavoimien 132. Lennoston laskelmien mukaan nykyinen henkilöstö-, huolto- ja polttoainekustannukset sisältävä lentotuntihinta 110 000 Norjan kruunua (n. 11 000 e) ei juuri poikkea F-16:sta. #hxhanke #turpo
