A pair of curlews for #stainedglasssunday just wandering from the watercolour to the window!
Patrick loved the new 12 cylinder model, but sadly the cost to run it meant he lost his shirt trying to keep it on the road - c. 1260, British Library, Add. 62925, f. 83r

The family of Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville in stained glass at Little Malvern Priory. Iโve wanted to see this ever since I saw the future Edward V window at Coldridge in Devon. Thereโs also a line up in Canterbury Cathedral. #StainedGlassSunday
Beautiful evening along Rochdale Canal in Hebden Bridge when I arrived on foot this week.
More photos of the Shell Line at Shingle Street, created by friends Lida Kindersley & Els Bottema when both were undergoing cancer treatment. The line comprises 20,000 white whelks & is intended to symbolise friendship, healing & 'how we keep going, shell-by-shell, day-by-day.'
#Wassoncoffee โ๏ธ visits the Cosy Club Lincoln for the first time. An impressive set up using the old Market Hall with a good Flat White, coming in at a 9 as no ๐ช Can certainly recommend ๐
How about a pic of Hardwick Hall to celebrate the 498th birthday of its remarkable creator, Bess of Hardwick? Bess is famous for marrying four times & ensuring that each marriage catapulted her higher up the social scale until as Countess of Shrewsbury, she was one of the mostโฆ

Needs a click/tap! Derived from Orthodox icon style, Margarito d'Arezzo work here from c1263 shows a tenderness usually absent from that period. Note BVM touching the Christ child's foot. The supporting lion looks oddly Oriental to me @SarahBlick3 National Gallery, London
And we're off. Actually the Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever 2025, here we come! #Haworth
On #StainedGlassSunday, a tiny bit of #medieval #stainedglass at St Leodegarius, Ashby St Ledger.

Douglas Strachan was born in Aberdeen in 1875, and a number of local churches have his work. His war memorial window in Kings College Chapel, 1921, depicts buglers in front of a swirling firmament, flanked by the allegorical figures of Peace and Justice. 1/3 #StainedGlassSunday
One last one in Aberdeen for #SteepleSaturday, Kings College Chapel. Work commenced in 1500 under the patronage of King James IV, and was probably complete by 1522 when the crown steeple was first recorded. It's one of the most complete pre-Reformation churches in Scotland. 1/3

This kind of vase (a lekythos) was associated with funerary rites - it was used to contain olive oil. The young man in the centre of the image is probably the deceased, and itโs such a moving depiction: he is so beautiful and so melancholy. The Met Museum.
