Got two letters yesterday. One from the Nallur Divisional Secretariat, a local office with sender details in all three languages. The other from the Central Environmental Authority, a national body, only in Sinhala. Why is it so hard to respect our language rights?

1000s of stories like this. Yet Sri Lanka did nothing. My friend’s rich uncle, who hasn’t bought any (movable or immovable) property after losing everything in #BlackJuly, says, “I’m always ready to pack and leave.” A country that keeps failing its people will never flourish.

He should probably just stick to cricket. Then again, I am a defender of free speech. "But I know plenty of Tamils who literally worship the LTTE." Ever stopped to think why? Or is that too inconvenient for your brand of political wisdom?
Not every Sinhalese took part in the Black July violence, but when leaders say these things, they know they have the backing of the masses. That means many were silent enablers, allowing hate to grow and poison our country. #BlackJuly1983 #BlackJuly #antitamilpogrom
What I really love about @dialoglk is how they’re always so good at being disappointing and giving terrible service. They never change — always the same, just like the JVP.
What bothers me more than the NPP’s train stunt is some Sinhala-speaking activists romanticising it. This isn’t reconciliation. It’s whitewashing structural violence & discrimination against Tamils. This is what happens when the oppressor gets to define what reconciliation means.
A country that whitewashes every atrocity committed by the state against its own people is not serious about reconciliation. You can rebrand it with commissions, reports, or symbolic gestures—but whitewashing is still whitewashing. #BlackJuly1983 #SriLanka
