UNHCR is gravely concerned by the rapidly increasing number of Sudanese refugees crossing into eastern Chad. Nearly 20,000 people – mostly exhausted and traumatized women and children – have arrived in the past two weeks alone.

Today, I am in Ourecassoni, Chad, where new refugees are still coming from Sudan. I discussed with Hanan, a mother of six children whose husband was killed in 2024. Her boy Yasser, whose arm was cut up, 3 days ago, is devastated. He is urgently admitted at the hospital by UNHCR.
