🖼️🤔👓 Out tomorrow (18 July) - a simmering, shimmering new disc on @SOMMRecordings of Latin American (& more) art song from Julieth Lozano Rolong & João Araújo. More enthusiasm in my write-up for @ArtMuseLondon here… artmuselondon.com/2025/07/16/lat…
Can’t wait to get stuck into this, but has the technology yet been invented to read it safely? #WeightyTome #Hernia

#OHPLucia is the kind of production to sneak up on you: haunting touches that come together by the close & stay in the mind. Soloists & ensemble all memorable - & @Jenni_France’s vivid, centred portrayal (the mad scene & all that surrounded it) was extraordinary. @operahollandpk

Flying solo at the marvellous #OHPLucia this evening. @operahollandpk still has the Best Interval Cuppa, too. 🙌

Another superb @AfricanSeries day @wigmore_hall draws to a close. Lovely programme tonight shuffling combinations of African & Western instruments to life-affirming effect. 🙏 💐 to @RebecaOmordia for impeccable piano / curation / organisation skills!

Cast of thousands* (*10) for this enticing ‘African Odyssey’ programme, the finale to today’s ace @AfricanSeries day @wigmore_hall. Excited to hear these performers back in this space!

Concert 2 of @AfricanSeries was a gem - scintillating solo piano selections from Maria Thompson Corley with Nadine Benjamin guesting on some beautiful songs. Back tonight for part 3! @wigmore_hall

Onward with @AfricanSeries @wigmore_hall - astonishing morning concert from Tunde Jegede, Jan Hendrickse & Vincent Ademola Haastrup; now for the ‘African Women’ programme from Maria Thompson Corley & Nadine Benjamin.

First @AfricanSeries gig starting shortly. Tunde Jegede always brilliant live. Looking forward! @wigmore_hall

Tunde Jegede, Jan Hendrickse and Vincent Ademola are sound checking ahead of this morning’s concert at @wigmore_hall, starting a wonderful day of concerts. 🎶 Joins us from 11.30AM! ✨
Suitably tropical conditions (!) for @AfricanSeries Day. Take shelter @wigmore_hall: kora at 11.30, song at 3, chamber at 7.30. Get involved! (And dry!)
My interview with Maria Thompson Corley coming soon! @AfricanSeries @wigmore_hall 👇🏼🎶👇🏼

Spectacular ‘Salome’ from LSO/Pappano at the Barbican this evening. Asmik Grigorian astonishing in the title role but all the soloists were firing on extra cylinders & the orchestra threatened to dislodge the circle. Immense!

Ace recital @KingsPlace tonight from James Newby & @jpianomiddleton with readings from @andoh_adjoa. A confrontational hook, framing songs & poems of wit, melancholy & hope.

Beautiful recital @wigmore_hall tonight from @keyboardkris, focusing on early Schubert compositions. The first half was brilliantly programmed, with the feel almost of a deliberate sustained sequence: it’d be lovely to think a CD release might emerge from this.

🖼️🤔👓 (2/2) A ‘double post’ from me on @ArtMuseLondon following a trip to @operzuerich. Here I take you on a whistle-stop tour of the venue’s exhibition featuring the brilliant posters of François Berthoud. artmuselondon.com/2025/07/06/gra…
🖼️🤔👓 (1/2) A ‘double post’ from me on @ArtMuseLondon following a trip to @operzuerich. Here I enthuse about 2 excellent productions I saw on the same day: ‘L’Orfeo’ & ‘Elias’, so much time spent contemplating the beyond… artmuselondon.com/2025/07/06/dar…
Tea, bun, jazz on the café stereo, a little window of writing time. Lovely.
