New: “We lose Game 7 and I’m sitting there, and I just said, ‘F*** it. I’ve got to do this.’” The story of Joe Mazzulla’s grueling 8-day trip to a Costa Rican jungle, where a former chess prodigy became his mentor and challenged him like never before. bostonglobe.com/2025/05/05/spo…
According to a league source, the Celtics are waiving guard JD Davison. Davison, the G League MVP, is no longer eligible for a two-way contract with the Cs but could sign one elsewhere or compete for a roster spot. Celtics now have one open spot, but no move imminent.
New: “He just hits us with, ‘So, Jayson Tatum’s going to be here tomorrow.’ We were like, ‘What? Say that again?’ We were all in shock.” Tatum was in Tennessee for Kemba Walker’s wedding, and that led to a thrill for Chattanooga’s basketball team. bostonglobe.com/2025/07/22/spo…
Was told that although the NBA’s Board of Governors will meet here in Vegas this week, a vote on the approval of the Celtics sale is not scheduled. It is still expected to take place soon, coinciding with the close of the transaction, but not now.

An NBA front office should look to hire HoopsAttitude lol

Not sure if this is out there, but longtime assistant Matt Reynolds has been tabbed to coach the Celtics’ summer league team.
Luke Kornet is out and Luka Garza is in, and plenty of questions about the Celtics roster remain. But sources have stressed that a push for further reconstruction continues. bostonglobe.com/2025/06/30/spo…
I’m told Al Horford continues to mull potential options for next season and at the moment appears unlikely to have a final decision on the first day of free agency tomorrow.
According to a league source the Celtics are picking up JD Davison’s option for next season but it will be non-guaranteed, preserving some flexibility for both sides.
New: I talked to Celtics international scout Benas Matkevicius, who spent 4 years watching Hugo Gonzalez before the Celtics drafted him in the 1st round. “He’s really a true competitor and fans will love him because of that Marcus Smart-type of effort.” bostonglobe.com/2025/06/27/spo…
A couple of scenes from the Cooper Flagg draft parties in Newport, Maine last night.

“It’s because he’s a Maine boy.” Cooper Flagg will be the 1st pick of tonight’s draft, and more than 50 friends and family from Maine will be there. In his hometown of Newport, huge parties are planned all over, with food trucks and seaplane rides. bostonglobe.com/2025/06/23/spo…
Was told that the Celtics are pleased with their necessary deals this week but that the general mood within the org is somber, because, basically, it sucks to trade two good players and people who helped you win a title.
