Exploring the universe from a backyard in Arizona. Get my telescope buying guide馃憞
On Sunday I traveled to the middle of the desert to capture this: The ISS against our sun. What I didn't expect: the sun producing a magnificent flare at the same time A once-in-a-lifetime shot I'm thrilled to share with you. See the uncropped shot or get the print in the reply

This was probably my most intense project, working every morning and night for 6 weeks, grabbing sleep only when possible. Tomorrow I鈥檓 sharing a project to my email subscribers that didn鈥檛 cost me as much sleep, but was even more complex.
All the space lovers who follow me watching me slowly devolve into a pet influencer
Turns out he just wanted my chair 馃槖
He got done watching the birds for the last hour now he鈥檚 telling me all about what he saw
I know I don't do a good job advertising it, but the raw data from this and many other deep sky shots is available as a perk on patreon. It's my same username if you're interested! I like giving people a feel for the image processing side of things, as its my favorite part!
Another photo captured using my 8" telescope from Sacramento. The light pollution introduced some color gradients I had to work around, but otherwise you can still clearly see the structure of these light-years-wide nebulae. Don't let your circumstances hold you back!

FYI I shot this from my backyard when I lived in Sacramento. All light pollution did was make the image a bit noisier. You can do this from anywhere in the world that has clear skies where the object is above the horizon.
I pushed my 8" telescope to the absolute limits to peer deep into the shockwave of a supernova. The image revealed a chaotic tangle of ionized hydrogen and oxygen, still expanding through space 8,000 years after the star erupted. You'll see more of this in a few days! :)
