A team of dedicated court employees from the 17th Judicial Circuit was in Omaha, NE, this week for the 2025 Annual Conference of the National Association for Court Management. We’re proud to have sent our team there, gaining valuable insights to bring back to our community.

Judge Edward H. Merrigan Jr., a highly decorated Major General in the U.S. Army, received a formal military sendoff during a retirement ceremony in Washington, D.C. He presides in Circuit Criminal, founding our Veterans Court in 2012. Thank you for your service!

✨ For the second time this year, Court Administration celebrated employees reaching milestone anniversaries of five years or more with special recognition awards. Trial Court Administrator Joe D’Amico honored 22 people for their service to the 17th Judicial Circuit. Thank you!

The 17th Judicial Circuit is proud to share that Judge Jackie Powell served as a panelist during the Masters Seminar on Ethics at the Florida Bar Convention in Boca Raton. Judge Powell joined a discussion on ethical practices in the legal profession.

Many thanks to Judge Lauren M. Alperstein, who helped make the Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition 2025 such a success! The competition honors the late Robert Orseck, who is considered by many to have played a significant role in the development of the common law in Florida.

Judge Jeffrey R. Levenson recently had the unique opportunity to experience international law firsthand. In Seoul, South Korea, he visited a local courthouse and met with two civil court judges who facilitated his observation of an ongoing trial. Amazing experience!
