Accidentally stumbled upon this little medieval laneway today in the heart of #Wexford Town. It's known as Keyser's Lane; deriving from Old Norse meaning ‘lane to the quays’. Many of the old Norse towns of Ireland contain either a street/lane/hill with the word 'Keyser' in it.

Visited the grave of John Palliser (1817-1877) today, one of #Ireland's greatest explorers. Famous for his survey of the interior of Canada undertaken for the Royal Geographical Society. Buried on the grounds of a little COI chapel found in the foothills of the #Comeraghs.

Memorial to local man Frank Dwan in Bunmahon Village #Waterford. He boarded the #Titanic at Cobh on the 11th of April 1912 on his way to visit his children in America; lost his life at sea when the liner sank on the 15th April.

Interestingly, the county boundary between #Waterford & #Kilkenny passes directly through @FerrybankGAA's pitch. One goal in WD and one KK. Each year, a portion of Waterford's club championship games are actually played in Kilkenny. Is this set-up unique to Ferrybank? #GAA

The phantom island known as Hy-Brasil shown here on a map dating to 1595. Irish myths described it as being cloaked in mist except for one day every seven years, when it became visible but still couldn't be reached.

The Quaker Burial Ground, Newtown, #Waterford - Following Quaker tradition, all headstones are plain and placed in a precise grid pattern. All graves are the same, and carry the minimum information: the person's name, date of birth, and date of death.

Stumbled upon this 300 year old dovecot yesterday in rural western 🇫🇷. It could accommodate up to 2000 pigeons! The structure was once crowned by a timber windmill.
For anyone thinking of giving the Suir BlueWay a go: it comes highly recommended! #Tipperary
Killaloan Churchyard - If there's a finer setting for a chapel than Killaloan, I've yet to see it. Sleivenamon sits to its NE and the River Suir straddles its S boundary. It's a classic Board of First Fruits structure built between 1825 and 1827 with exceptional masonry quality.

#OnThisDay 1798 The 1798 Rebellion began with attacks on mail coaches by United Irishmen. Its aim was to establish an independent, sovereign, Irish republic. Wolfe Tone wanted; ‘to unite Catholic, Protestant & Dissenter under the common name of Irishman’. #Ireland #History

Sruffaunoughterluggatoora is a mountain stream in the Twelve Bens range of Connemara, Co. #Galway. The stream is noted for its exceptionally long name, which, with 25 letters, is one of the longest place-names in Ireland.
