Lisa Nandy, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, explains how new regulator will 'end the misery of so many football fans' | @andydunnmirror mirror.co.uk/sport/football…
Thank you, @tracey_crouch - this wouldn’t have been possible without your tireless work and leadership. The Football Governance Act is a real team effort, fan-driven, and long overdue.
I just wanted to say thank you to @Keir_Starmer @10DowningStreet @lisanandy @Steph_Peacock & @dcms officials for delivering the Football Governance Act, establishing an Independent Regulator. It was a long time coming! For the sake of fans, clubs & the sport, I wish it well.
Our Football Governance Act puts fans first. It’s for supporters in Macclesfield, Wigan, Bury, Bolton, Derby, Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Morecambe - and every club where fans were put last when they should’ve come first. Today is their win.
Really proud to be part of a @DCMS ministerial team that has kept our manifesto promise to fans and delivered the Football Governance Act 2025 that became law today. Fans will now have a stronger voice in how their football teams are run.
Spoke to @danroan earlier about how the new Football Governance Act puts fans back at the heart of the game. This is their victory - a hard-fought win for supporters who've campaigned for years to be heard.
What does the football 'regulator bill' mean for fans? bbc.in/3GDt134
Football is in our country’s DNA. It means so much to so many of us. That’s why I’m proud that today we deliver on our promise to fans as the landmark Football Governance Act becomes law. Protecting clubs across the country and giving fans more say in how they are run.
It’s official - the Football Governance Bill has now become law. Our Labour Government has stood with fans who’ve long called for reform. This means stronger protections for clubs, more sustainable finances, and fans put back at the heart of the game - where they belong ⚽️

We are creating a new Water Ombudsman to help to tackle water company failures and stand up for consumers.
There is no place for racism in football or anywhere in society. I stand with Jess, the Lionesses, and any players who have suffered racism, on and off the pitch.
We stand with Jess, and all #Lionesses players past and present who have suffered racism. A message from the squad:
Reform have no idea. Labour will reform the water sector to halve the levels of pollution in our waterways by 2030.
The Tories did nothing as water companies dumped filth into our rivers, lakes, and seas. My Labour government launched the largest criminal action against polluting water companies in history and banned unfair bosses' bonuses. And we will cut sewage pollution in half.
We said we’d bring the railways back into public hands. We’re delivering on that promise. From today, c2c services across London and Essex will be publicly owned. Putting passengers first.
