Part 1 THEN: Experienced ODP (13 years) | Part 2 NOW: Disillusioned New Anaesthetic Consultant | Difficult Airway | Head & Neck |🚫NO to PAAs
At 34, I embarked on the grueling journey to become a doctor. Specialty training was relentless, pushing my mental limits. Financial and personal sacrifices piled up. Now, at 52, I’m finally a consultant of 3 months. I could have been an AA, but I fought for it the RIGHT way!
I nearly spat out my smashed avocado on toast! The older male doctors who keep popping up in the news did alright out of the NHS, didn’t they! No wonder they didn’t go on strike (apart from that time when they went on strike for 40% in 1975)! #BMA1948
Well said. This is rough & ready but useful I think!
A friend has been seeing a paediatrician for her kids in the US for >3 years I searched up that paediatrician today, turns out she’s a nurse practitioner with an online PhD 3 years of keeping up the facade of being a doctor, never correcting my friend when she referred to her…
1/ Kate Matharu, a GP of 25 years, told The Guardian that resident doctors striking “harms patients” and that people who put finances first “shouldn’t be in the profession.” We should talk about why this perspective is deeply flawed.
Formal business attire or white coats for Drs only, identifiable uniforms for all other staff, and no need for anyone to be wearing scrubs outside of theatre/ITU/HDU, and at a push, ED!
💯 There should be a clear & distinguish dress code with visible ID for every professional role-dr, nurse/ advanced nurse, PA/advanced PA, & all AHP along with their advanced roles. Patients deserve to know who they are seeing -dr, PA, or advanced practice nurse. @wesstreeting
‼️ PATIENTS OF THE U.K. ‼️ Do not allow yourself to be diagnosed by a physician assistant Do not allow your GP surgery to assign one to you In A&E do not allow a PA to take a history , do a physical examination and diagnose you ASK FOR A MEDICALLY QUALIFIED DOCTOR INSTEAD
This morning a senior PA lecturer has said he has reported me to the GMC for misinformation. I was also called a troll. Happy to correct any misinformation but he wasn’t able to specify. Instead he deleted his FB account. I’m a dr concerned about pt safety. That’s it.
🚨 FAO Physician Assistants When I spoke to Prof Leng, she told me many doctors felt that PAs could have a really important role assisting doctors in the NHS. I agreed, and added my voice to what I still believe is a strong case for an assistant role, which I believe could be…
This is disturbing I hear there are PAs who are critical of Nash & his @UMAPsUK NEC who have supposedly infiltrated every PA group & silenced any PA voices critical of them🥺 They feel Nash doesn’t represent them, but has been given voice on national stage due to his“links” 1/n
Quiz Time What is this mnemonic describing? "Some Say Money Matters, But My Brother Says Big Brains Matter More." Fastest finger first! 👇🏼
There’s 80 + jobs on NHS jobs for ACPs - I counted them . That’s where @wesstreeting priorities are . Dr replacement on band 7-8 . Imagine how many band 5 nurses we could employ instead with that money
So let me get this straight. No jobs for graduating nurses, no jobs for graduating midwives, no jobs for newly qualified doctors. Either find the money for jobs, or shut the courses. Stop selling young professionals lies of a career in the NHS. theguardian.com/society/2025/j…
ACPs on the Haematology Registrar rota………one of the toughest of all specialities with arguably the most unwell patients in all of medicine.🤯 Haematology experience is desirable but not essential. 🤯
To say that I am shocked about this job advert is is an understatement @nottmhospitals I hope you realise how complex and vulnerable Haem patients are, and how utterly dangerous this is, letting medically unqualified people play registrar in an extremely complex speciality 1/
Ashok, the Healthcare Assistant just told me that a million seconds is 11 days, but a billion seconds is 32 years! He’s full of interesting facts. It really puts Elon Musk’s £335 billion net worth into perspective, doesn’t it? That’s 10,116 years by the way!
4 emergency/trauma theatres running today, so 36 Krispy Kremes for the theatre teams, and a double sausage and egg McMuffin with hash browns for myself and the ODP ensures I get coffee brought to the anaesthetic room on demand. It’s the little things that matter when on call 😉
Now that the Leng review has endorsed both the RCoA and RCGP Scopes of Practice; Can we put this nonsense from 'CMAPs' to bed. cmaps.org.uk/cmaps-response…
Statement from @RCRadiologists following @lengreview - No role for PAs in Diagnostic Radiology. - There may be a limited, tightly defined role for PAs to support doctors working in Interventional Radiology. - PAs should not be requesting any clinical imaging investigations.
The introduction of Physician Associates in the NHS has raised serious concerns among some of our members. We support several changes the Leng Review has proposed, but there's still work to be done to define how PAs work with our specialties. Read more: rcr.ac.uk/news-policy/la…
Exactly! My Apple iWatch or a coffee cup in the anaesthetic room has fuck all to do with theatre or hospital infections. It’s petty management on self-justifying power trips, nothing more! This nonsense distracts from real infection control issues. There’s bigger fish to fry!!
In the USA doctors wear jewellery and nail varnish… Including surgeons Just sayin…
